Circa 1900
Circa 1900 is a board game centered around the concept of Nihilism in nineteenth century Russia. Nihilism is the social construct that states that life is meaningless and there are no established forms of government or rulers, so the only way to be truly free is to overthrow the established regime. That being said, I devised a game that pitted the Russian Nihilists (the blue pieces) verse the Tarist Empire (the red pieces) of the time.
The game is for ages 15 and up, and based on the strategy of either reaching the other teams designated starting location before the other or eliminating the opposing players through a series of bomb, attack, and chance cards. Each player is given ten points of health. As an aside, different check points (marked with green dots on the photo above) allowed players to add health or weapons.
The logo is a word mark reflecting the a gothic typeface and the entire game board is designed and hand crafted out of bass wood and white oak. Each game piece is carved and sanded flat to go from space-to-space, there also are two 40 card decks for each side as well as bomb and trap chips to be placed at different locaions of the map. The overall duration of this game is between 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.
