Greener Spaces
Greener Spaces is a periodical that focuses on environmental design and sustainability. It primarily addresses
what green architecture is and how firms are addressing more environmentally friendly forms of building and development, specifically in parks. Since I myself work at a park in the summer time, I thought it was important
to highlight what certain architects, engineers, and designers are looking at when creating parks or other green spaces.
The best way to address this was to pick an architecture firm that I felt pushes the boundaries of green architecture, primarily in park-based settings, and for that I found Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates INC. This firm deals primarily with parks and campuses that act as both a recreational destinations and treatment facilities. I dedicated my second article to exploring this firm further. My third article focused on a preserve in New Brunswick, Canada called the Hearth. A space dedicated to pure recreation and minimal standing structures.
As for the overall layout of the periodical, I went with a vertical two-column grid with alternating bands of both black and park green, the two primary colors. I wanted the overall theme to be modern and driven to giving as much information as possible about each project. The logo mark accentuates this progressive movement and the style guide helps re-enforce that notion.
