Zach Krysinski: Extreme Ironing

Zach Krysinski's Guide to Extreme Ironing and Cross Training Experience was a hobby design challenge focused on making obscure hobbies inviting and intriguing. The hobby I was given was the British hobby of extreme ironing founded by one Phil Shaw. For this design challenge, I research how extreme ironing had evolved from a ridiculous hobby to an overall accepted form of cross training in the United Kingdom. I also looked at demographics who would look to partake in such a hobby and how extreme ironing has made its way to the United States.

After I had conducted this research, I looked at creating a persona (i.e. character) that would resonate with the American people. The name Zach Krysinski came from a combination of my first name and a goofball friend of mine's last name, thus giving a name to the face. From there, I produced a logo and had a series of camera men and women film me performing extreme ironing in a variety of settings in downtown Chicago. I then edited this footage into a 15 minute dvd.

From there, I packaged the dvd as a three part series for those interested in furthering the fun and adventure surrounding this hobby. Ultimately, this solution allowed me to create an original character and market him in a humorous fashion.
